Refurbishment of the Lodge is partially completed
The hall at Kaira Konko has been recently refurbished, the roof has been raised and steel trussed used to replace termite ridden rum palm trusses. This has meant that the columns have been removed and the space is lovely open. The floor has been raised to avoid flooding in the rainy season and tiled beautifully.
Fundraising is now well underway to refurbish the bedrooms at Kaira Konko to improve the bathroom so that more guests will stay bringing income to support the project.
May 2009 note from Marion
We have now dispatched over 10,000 t shirts to Kinteh. Kinteh says lots of youngsters are buying a few and selling them on making a few dalasi for their families so many people are seeing rice in their bowl as a result of the generosity of 3 mobile. He rang to ask if we could ship three more pallets urgently as he is taking orders.
He has been buying in materials to start the refurbishment of the Kaira Konko bedrooms and hopes to start raising the roof at KK next week. The idea being to have the new roof on before the rainy season so the interior works can be done during the rains.
